Canadian Ski Quest's Skier Improvement Camp

Red Mountain Program

On the Right Track with Canadian Ski Quest

Canadian Ski Quest has been operating at Red Mountain since 1996.  Since then we have skied with thousands of skiers, helping them to get the most enjoyment out of their skiing experience at Red Mountain.  At Canadian Ski Quest, skiing is our life and our passion.  In skiing we are constantly on a Quest for new feelings, new efficiencies, and new highs.  This Skiing Quest never ceases to inspire, it keeps us moving and motivated, exceeding the expectations of what we can get out of a sport.  This is the passion that we bring to your Canadian Ski Quest program.  We are fully committed to the continuous development of the delivery and standards of the Canadian Ski Quest experience.

Our commitment is to treat you as a guest from the moment you contact us. We ensure your winter holiday vacation with Canadian Ski Quest is well informed and well prepared for your travels to your destination and for your stay there with us.

A skier must be of an intermediate ability, moreover; being able to parallel downhill confidently.

The Canadian Ski Quest Program consists of six days of skiing. Saturdays are reserved for arrival and departure for all programs.  On Sunday you will have the chance to meet your fellow participants and tour the mountain with your instructors.

The instruction program runs from Monday to Friday and you will have your instructor at your disposal for the entire day.

Programs include:

  • 5 full days instruction at Red Mountain Ski Resort
  • 7 nights accommodation (based on twin share)
  • 6 day lift passes
  • Video analysis
  • Welcome/boot fitting seminar
  • Farewell Dinner
  • All local transportation, including Castlegar and Trail airport transfers (only on official arrival and departure dates)

There are five components to the Canadian Ski Quest Program.  Your instructor will lead your group through this cycle daily.

  1. Warm Up
  2. Skills Development
  3. Speed
  4. Terrain
  5. Cool Down

Warm Up

Your instructor will always take some time to get the group warmed up. The idea here is to physically warm up the legs and to mentally relax the group to a point where everyone is charged and ready to learn. The warm up is always different amongst individuals in the group. Some skiers are ready to go after a single run and others take three or four runs. The important thing is that you identify when you are ready to learn. If you do not feel you are ready to attempt a particular drill just let your instructor know that you need more time to warm up.

Each day your instructor will take some time to develop your basic skills. Typically we do this at slower speeds on easy terrain. The focus is usually on stance and turning. Your instructor will lead you through a series of exercises and will provide feedback that is based around your goals.

Speed

Once a change has been made within the group your instructor will challenge you to maintain the improvement at speed. The idea is to ski very fast on easy terrain, (always within your comfort zone). Many participants have commented that they have never skied as fast as they have on a Canadian Ski Quest program.

Terrain

We then take your improvements into the off piste. This stage of the program is guided mileage. Your instructor will keep you focused on the changes you have made and will introduce tactics to help with terrain and snow challenges.

Cool Down

We will always take a couple of runs to cool down towards the end of the day. These runs should be easy for you and will reinforce the improvements you have made through the day.
